In the Bangor Symphony Orchestra tradition of a grand finale, the fifth Masterworks concert on April 27, 2025, “Reverence: Brahms Requiem” features the powerful voices of soprano Aundi Marie Moore and baritone Isaac Bray, alongside the 100+ piece choruses made up of the University of Maine Singers and Oratorio Society with Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem. The afternoon begins with Lucas Richman’s arrangement of Hildegard von Bingen’s O Filie Israhel, promising an unforgettable finale to the Masterworks series.

“There is nothing like Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. It is an apocalyptic work requiring vast forces: a giant orchestra, as well as an organ, chorus, two soloists and multiple offstage musicians. Mahler poses the great questions of life and provides heart-stopping answers. In the finale the earth quakes, graves burst open, the last trumpet sounds, and a heavenly choir reassures all humankind: "Rise again, yes, thou shalt rise again." Of the culminating moments Mahler wrote: "A feeling of overwhelming love fills us with blissful knowledge and illuminates our existence."

Kat Wallace is a Boston-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Her affinity for original music has her working and recording with a myriad of touring bands, most notably as the fiddle player in Rachel Sumner and Traveling Light. Her debut solo album, Grand Design, set to be released on 1/24/25, captures Wallace’s musings on world’s ending, sailing across the western ocean, and moving on. Her timeless lyrics and virtuosic guitar playing are the foundation of this record and grounded in traditional Celtic and American folk repertoire.

This workshop provides an introduction into the world of Irish Traditional Music. Whether you play fiddle or not, this is a great class for any Celtic music-appreciator looking to understand more about the music they love. We’ll learn about the different types of tunes that make up the Irish repertoire, ways to distinguish between them, stylistic techniques that are found within the style, and much more. The class will learn a reel and a jig by ear, as well as helpful practice tips and tricks for efficient mastery. For those more advanced, there will also be a Q&A at the end to ask those more-specific burning questions.

Fox River (Kate Knudsvig, Eva Meier, Simon Lace and Eamon Sefton) is a new exciting Irish music quartet formed from some of Boston's staple traditional musicians.This contemporary music ensemble brings a modern edge to well loved Irish tunes, creating an eclectic fusion of old and new. Focusing on well-crafted and thoughtful arrangements, Fox River is ready to be your new favorite band.

Magpie (Kate Knudsvig, Kat Wallace, Erin Hogan and Helen Kuhar) is a democratic collective of musicians, where each member’s voice adds an equal thread to the group’s tapestry. With four voices as their canvas, they combine their individual talents into a shared interpretation, bringing fresh energy to the timeless melodies of the Celtic tradition. Inspired by the haunting soundscapes of Lankum and Ye Vagabonds, Magpie invites listeners to explore the vibrant tapestry of every song and story.

Elias is a multi-instrumentalist from Boston, Massachusetts. He is a longtime member of Boston’s Celtic music scene, having played there for over 12 years, and has performed all over the country, including on stages at the KVRM Celtic Festival, the Boston Celtic Music Festival, and the Burren Backroom. Joining him will be Kate Knudsvig on fiddle and Adam Hendey on guitar.

Since graduating in 2019 from Berklee College of Music, he has toured in both the US and Europe with Old Blind Dogs, Mari Black, Celtic Rhythms, the Strawberry Hill Band, and his band Glenville.
